Board Themes ~ In the beginning...

So let's talk a little about themes.  When I joined Pinterest, they had a few canned boards to start with.  These had very generic names like, "Favorite Places and Spaces," "Books Worth Reading," "My Style," "Products I Love," and "For the Home."  Great starting ideas, but somewhat bland, at least for me.  I've tried to chose interesting, sometimes catchy, names for my boards.  I've used names of songs, lines from songs, titles of books and some word association.  This may hinder people finding some of my boards when searching for specific things, but it's mine.

I currently have 84 boards, most of them are solely mine.  I share a few boards with my sister, Margo Tantau, and some with other creative colleagues.  Starting out, I had about twenty boards.  Among the early ones:

"Changes in Lattitudes" ~ all things travel... A Jimmy Buffet song, changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes, nothing remains quite the same, with all of our running and all of our cunning, if we couldn't laugh we would all go insane...

"Covet" ~ well, things I covet.  I also covet the word covet.

"People are Afraid to Merge" ~ all things art.  I took this line from Bret Easton Ellis's book, Less Than Zero.  It's a quote that has always captivated me because, people are, in fact, afraid to merge, both literally and figuratively.  Food for thought.  I believe that ART personifies people's individuality, thus an appropriate title for this board.

I love the works of Blanca Gomez

Nancy Drew and other fabulousness... ~ Growing up, I loved reading.  I still do.  This board is dedicated to the magical, imaginative books of youth.  Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, James and the Giant Peach, and Nancy Drew.  Yes, Nancy Drew.  Once in an interview, my future supervisor asked, "If you could be anything, what would you be?"  My answer?  "Nancy Drew."  The End.

Need is subjective ~ This originated as kind of a wish list.  What I would love to get for Christmas, etc.  The title is tongue in cheek, need IS subjective.  While I might truly WANT something, what we NEED, what I NEED, is not much.

Boots and Chaps and Cowboy Hats ~ borrowed from a Garth Brooks song... this board is about all things cowboy, and all things equestrian.  There is a bit of cross-over from Western to English, but the love horses is the guiding theme.  The best view:  the view from the saddle.  First true love:  a horse.  Best perfume:  saddle soap and leather combined with the deep smell of horse.  If you've known it, you get it.

Feels like home to me ~ This is a great song, beautiful and kind of haunting.  This board was my original home design board.  It was quickly my largest.  A while ago I remodeled this board into my current Habitat* board collection.

Life is good today ~ This is a great song by the Zac Brown Band.  It is happy and uplifting and makes me smile.  That is exactly what this board is about.

Dream a little dream ~ dream a little dream of me... this board is full of lovely baubles.  Dream on.

Conversations I'd Like to Have ~ People who are no longer with us.  People I find intriguing.  People I would love to have a conversation with, in that mythical place beyond here and now.

She's Got a Way ~ A nod to a lovely ballad by Billy Joel.  These  ladies, most are well known, some are just lovely gals.

You Give Me Something ~ James Morrison's You Give Me Something is one of my favorite tunes.  These men... well... a picture is worth a thousand words.
